For over three decades Flying Arts has been committed to delivering visual art experiences throughout rural and regional Queensland. Each year we collect a lot of feedback from the participants in our Touring Workshop program or the many calls to the office. One of the things we hear over and over again is the difficulties that artists face when attempting to have their work seen outside of their particular area and in the larger centres such as Brisbane. This kind of exposure can lead to all sorts of benefits such as increased sales of artwork, exhibition opportunities, educational opportunities and the possibility of making new contacts and networks.
We are very excited to announce that with the support of Arts Queensland and the Federal Government through VACS (Visual Art and Craft Strategy) we will be holding a showcase exhibition in Brisbane in 2008.
We tried to keep the “rules” to minimum to encourage maximum interest but here a few of the key criteria
1) READ THE CURATORIAL STATEMENT – it has loads of information and will answer most of your questions
2) Artists must be residents of regional Queensland and by that we mean outside of a 50km radius of Brisbane
3) Submitted work will only be considered if it is less that two years old – and any work that has been previously exhibited in Brisbane or any other State or Territory capital city will NOT be considered.
4) All styles and media considered, artists at any stage of their career are most welcome to submit work for consideration and you don’t need to be a member of Flying Arts.
5) Work and accompanying documents must be submitted to info@flyingarts.org.au via email no later than Friday December 14 OR by CD-Rom or DVD the old fashioned way to 5 Senses, Flying Arts, PO Box 5209, WEST END QLD 4101 postmarked no later that 14 December 2007.
We encourage the artists of regional Queensland to take a look at the Curatorial Statement and submit some images for consideration (and don’t forget to download a copy of the submission document as you’ll need to fill one of these out for each work you submit) – remember you don’t need to be a member of Flying Arts to submit. Over the next few weeks our curator, Dr Angelina Russo and members of the Flying Arts team will be hitting the ground in a few regional areas to spread the word.
Feel free to post questions at this blog in the comment section – remember someone else might want to know the same thing. We’ll be updating this blog regularly leading right up to Opening Night with all kinds of useful information so remember to check back from time to time.
